Hello! I’m likely missing something obvious here, but can anyone direct me to where I can obtain UCAR’s Watchdog Monitor for the Particle Boron data logger setup?

Also, I see that the Particle Born 2G/3G is out of production. Is this the proper product to use in its place:

Hi @jonathonprc! Welcome to the 3D-PAWS forum. The data logger type depends on where you will be deploying it and what type of communication you want to use. The bulk of 3D-PAWS deployed use the 2G/3G cellular modem because they are deployed internationally where they can use the cell network. If you are deploying stations in the US, you can use this Boron LTE-M for cellular communications.

Thank you for your quick reply! Would the Watchdog Monitor still be used in tandem with Boron LTE-M? I understand that UCAR produces the Watchdog, correct? How do I go about obtaining one?

Sorry. You do not need the watchdog for 3dpaws. its just a nice to have.

From Bob:

Hi Jonathonprc

The Watchdog board is internal to UCAR. We have published how to create one at [GitHub - 3d-paws/3D-PAWS-WatchDog · GitHub](https://github.com/3d-paws/3D-PAWS-WatchDog) . The Watchdog is not necessary for 3D-PAWS station operation. You can duplicate the reboot function of the Watchdog by connecting pin A0 from the Particle to a relay. Maybe something like this [Amazon.com](https://www.amazon.com/ELECTRONICS-SALON-Signal-Module-RY5W-K-Assembled/dp/B00LWX491K). We one side of the relay disrupts USB power and the other side disrupts LiPo battery power. You need to toggle off both of these power sources for a true reset. We originally developed the Watchdog for MKR 1400 & 1500 Arduino boards. Where we had software lock up issues with the modem library calls. We later added Watchdogs to Particle. We we have some issues with i2c sensors and wanted to be able to reset them. That issue seems to have went away when we change our i2c interconnect cabling solution. All in all the Particle solution is pretty solid and does not really need the Watchdog. Especially if you have easy access to the 3D-PAWS stations.

We use the Boron LTE-M Starter Kit with EtherSIM for North America (BRN404XKIT). It is quite excellent.
